Brisbane Traffic Centre (BTC)

Role

  • Provide real time traffic and incident management by monitoring and responding to all traffic incidents on behalf of client agencies.
  • Monitor and respond to road network infrastructure issues and incidents including traffic signal faults.
  • Coordinate and schedule travel information systems for planned events.

Operational Coverage

  • Brisbane Metropolitan Area 24 hours, seven days a week.
  • Queensland after hours support including: 
    • North Coast

Operational Philosophy

  • The BTC provides quality traffic incident management services for clients that through effective monitoring and response and mitigating incident impact, contributes positively to the safety and efficiency of the Region´s road network.
  • The BTC integrates the previous Brisbane City Council and Main Roads Department Traffic Management Centres into a single network operations centre. This has been the most significant change in the establishment of the new Centre and its success is reliant on the following operational philosophy:
    • Network centric.
    • Proactive monitoring.
    • Value information push.
    • Performance driven.

Real Time Traffic Reports

  • For up to date traffic information on roads in the Brisbane Metropolitan area, please visit the 131940 website.  Alternatively, you can obtain information on current road conditions by calling the 131940 hotline. 

Planned Roadworks and Events

  • For information on planned roadworks and special events in the Brisbane Metropolitan Area, please visit the 131940 website.  You can also obtain information on other Districts within the State from this location.

  • For up to date information on flooded areas State wide please visit the RACQ flood website.

ROAD RELATED SERVICES

Motorway Breakdown Response Service

  • In March 2008, Main Roads announced its new Motorway Breakdown Response Service.  If your vehicle is stopped on a Motorway in the Brisbane Metropolitan area, the vehicle must be removed for your safety, ensuring the flow of traffic and the safety of other motorists.  For more information on this service, please visit the Main Roads website

Traffic Response Unit (TRU) Service

  • On 1 June 2008 the TRU service was unveiled with a new look and expanded service to help ease traffic congestion on Brisbane roads. 
  • This service is a joint initiative between Brisbane City Council and the Department of Main Roads.  For more information on this service, please go to the Main Roads website and the Brisbane City Council website.

Towing Service - Heavy Haulage   

  • Another congestion management initiative is the introduction of heavy haulage tow trucks during peak periods (both morning and afternoon).   This service is available in the Metropolitan District on State controlled roads.
